It's like rocket science, only more fun.
The Portfolio of Doug Stuart
Every business must present information to its clients. But there is so much information, and so many different ways to present it, that this most important task can be daunting.
I provide solutions to this problem.
How I Roll
The method to my madness
I am a researcher, designer, architect. I combine primary research with abductive reasoning to create products that make large information systems easier to understand. I specialize in user experience designs, and advocate for the user. I have two cats. I like to clean. My favorite book is Moby Dick. I am large, I contain multitudes. This is how I work.
Research is essential to producing any kind of vehicle for specialized knowledge. To build such a tool, I use various research methods including ethnography, heuristic evaluations, card sorting, storyboards, and more. This helps me to develop some level of expertise in the given subject and understand what users need.
Once a large amount of data has been gathered, I distill that data into useful information. This distillation requires its own strategy: based on ideas from the initial data, a number of design processes refine the focus, including personas, mockups, usage scenarios, low-fidelity designs and collaboration and ideation with the client. Once this information has been organized and refined, I can move forward to highlight the core ideas my client wishes to present.
I use the best practices of design, communication, and media to create a package that serves as the medium for the message, and test repeatedly to ensure I'm on the right track. Whether it be in the form of infographics, videos, or a web site, a high-quality design is essential to presenting the information in a way that can turn mere information into knowledge. This change — from information to knowledge — is what makes the difference between a mediocre message and a superior one.
